A challenging circuit with a high accent on cornering ability and the need to string together sequences of corners. Not a circuit you learn in a lap or two.
We come down the pit straight in fourth gear, keeping to the right to allow room for cars exiting the pits. Skim the yellow line that marks the pit road and then into the left to brake for the first sequence of corners.
Into 3rd (but with practice maybe 4th) and turn at the last marker across the apex, accelerating towards the next pair of bends. Brake, skim the marker on the left using the kerb and then turn into the right hand bend into a real long corner.
With practice you can do the whole of the next section as one long right hander under full power in third and with consistent steering lock. You go into the chicane over the right hand kerb and then turn left through the second part and out onto the straight. Into 4th, stay on the right hand side of the track and then pull across to the left as the track kinks slightly left.
Brake hard and into 3rd well on the left of the circuit and then turn late into Tower. Clip the apex and then let the car drift right out to the left hand side on the exit. Move to the right, into 4th and then flat out into the first left kink, staying left before the next right hand kink, again flat in 4th. It is vital not to let the car drift wide because the wide run off area is very rough and will do a lot of damage.
Stay left and then into the final right hand kink flat in 4th. Very quickly the next sequence of bends comes up. Brake hard and into 3rd and then turn into what is a long right 180 degree bend with a double apex. Take the first apex and let the car drift to the outer edge – but beware not going over the edge – and then turn into the second apex and out onto the straight. Done right it becomes one long corner.
Into 4th, over to the right and then into the last triple sequence of corners. You brake with no markers to aim for, into 3rd then into a long left hander under power. Brake some more and then turn quite sharp right across the apex and let the car drift out left on the exit as you head towards the final really tight left hand hairpin.
This is a very sharp bend which requires a late turn in to get the nose into the corner and then accelerate out using every inch of track. Into 3rd, 4th and check the pit boards to start another lap.
